The two forwards, who both swapped Serie A for the Premier
League, have as a result seen comparisons drawn between
them.
With the Portuguese having broken the men’s international
scoring record earlier this week, Lukaku was asked whether
he could see himself following suit. He gave a defiant answer
to the question.
Talking in a press conference whilst on international duty,
Lukaku said: “Don’t ever compare me to Cristiano Ronaldo,
never.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is, for me, in the top three best players in
the history of football. I’m not going to rank him from first to
third but he’s in there.
“What he has achieved in football today for players of my
generation is something exceptional.
“I was lucky enough to play against him in Italy and now that
he’s back in the Premier League, it’s all good for English
football.
“As for the rest, comparing statistics and all that, it’s
useless.”
Of course, Lukaku will be aiming to beat Ronaldo to an award
this summer as he eyes the Premier League top scorer
award.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner came out on top the last
time the two faced off as he claimed the Italian
Capocannoniere award last season with 29 goals.
