The Federal Road Safety Force (FRSC) in Ebonyi said it had rescued 12 victims of a crash on February 18 along the Abakaliki/Ogoja (Cross River) interstate.
FRSC Ebonyi Area Commander Uche Chukwurah told on Tuesday in Abakaliki, that command staff transported the rescued victims to the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki.
The industry commander said the accident happened at the end of the road from the Teachers’ College (TTC), the victims suffered various degrees of injuries.
She said: “We had a follow-up on February 19 and were able to report that the victims were responding to treatment with some being discharged.
She said the order could not confirm the death toll in the crash because they only saw injured victims being rescued. “The accident involved a bus and a Toyota Sienna and we discovered that the bus had burned down.
“The people on the bus were burned to the point of being unidentifiable, so we can’t confirm the death toll.
“The crash was probably caused by speeding,” Ms. Chukwurah said.
An unnamed witness said the bus was heading to Taraba from Rivers.
“The bus lost control after hitting a motorbike and then collided head-on with the Sienna vehicle. “The bus flipped over and caught fire,” he said.
