Chelsea now wants to recall loan player early

Callum Hudson Odoi has joined Bayer Leverkusen on a
season-long loan with an option for Chelsea to recall him in
January. The reason for his departure was the lack of game
time. Hudson-Odoi was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s
first three matches in the League. Regular game time was
going to be an issue after Chelsea acquired Raheem Sterling
and Aubameyang in the transfer window. Consequently,
Hudson-Odoi departed Stamford Bridge to join Leverkusen.
However, now reports have merged that new manager
Graham Potter wants to recall Hudson Odoi in the January
window. Potter had expressed an interest in the Chelsea
youngster in his time at Brighton. According to the report by
Bild , Graham Potter had a desire to sign the player to play
for Brighton. Hudson Odoi has never really lived up to his
full potential at Chelsea. He has had 16 goals and 22 assists
in 126 appearances for Chelsea since his breakthrough into
the first team from the academy. However, he couldn’t put
in consistent performances for Chelsea due to his constant
injury issues.

This is the first time that Callum Hudson Odoi has left
Chelsea. Normally, youth players are given a chance to
develop by being sent out on loan to other clubs, one
abroad and one in the league. However, Hudson Odoi was
never sent out on loan by Chelsea who preferred to keep
him at Stamford Bridge. Speaking to the Leverkusen
website, Hudson-Odoi expressed his happiness and
excitement in joining the club. Hudson Odoi said:
“I’m definitely excited. I
think it’s a new experience
for me – I haven’t been
anywhere else but Chelsea.
So coming here, I’m
delighted to be here and I
can’t wait to get started
with the boys, get going and
hopefully do well. The
project is attractive. I said
to the family that I want to
go out there and make sure
that I’m playing football and
get the opportunity to play
in front of great fans. It’s
massive for me to come
