Chelsea are desperate to sign €50m- rated Spain international

Chelsea have earmarked Villarreal centre-back Pau
Torres as an alternative for Sevilla defender Jules
Kounde this summer. The London giants are in the
market for a defender following the summer exits of
Christensen and Rudiger. This left the German coach
with the largely unproven Chalobah and Sarr as Thiago
Silva’s partners.
Brazil international himself is 37 and entering the final
phase of his career. To address the issues, the Blues
signed Koulibaly from Napoli earlier this month but
need at least one more signing to their centre-back
roster. Their pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt went nowhere,
while the move for Nathan Ake fell flat as well.
Chelsea were close to agreeing on a deal for Kounde
but now risk being gazumped again this summer by
Barcelona. As a result, the London giants have now
shifted their attention to Spain international and have
earmarked him as an alternative for Jules Kounde.
Torres is a ball-playing centre-back who is among the
best in his position in Spain. Pau can be a long-term
solution to the London club’s defensive woes and has
attracted attention from several top teams thanks to
his displays at the Estadio De La Ceramica.
The London giants are set to splash the cash and will
offer €50m to secure the 25-year-old defender’s
services. With the 2022/23 PL season less than two
weeks away, they will do well to secure their squad as
soon as possible.
