Ajax star Edson Alvarez keen to force through Chelsea transfer after Todd Boehly makes £43m move

Dutch outlet De Telegraaf report that Chelsea made a £43m
offer for Alvarez on Wednesday, shortly after their Premier
League defeat to Southampton and 24 hours before the
transfer window shuts.
It is claimed that Alvarez, who can play as a defensive
midfielder or centre-back, is keen to join the Premier League
club, having pushed for a move away from Ajax earlier in the
summer.
Ajax blocked the 24-year-old from joining Newcastle United
and Rennes earlier in the window but are now facing even
greater pressure to accept his departure.

Alvarez views a move to Chelsea as a great opportunity for
his career and could earn four times as much at Stamford
Bridge than he currently does in Amsterdam.

As a result, the Mexican star has told Ajax to enter into talks
with Chelsea and reach an agreement before Thursday’s
transfer deadline.
Alvarez has made 107 appearances for Ajax since signing
from Mexican side Club America in 2019 and has earned 58
caps for Mexico.
Chelsea have already spent more than £200m this summer,
bringing the likes of Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling and
Kalidou Koulibaly to Stamford Bridge.
But Blues boss Thomas Tuchel and new Chelsea owner Todd
Boehly are keen to continue their spending spree before the
window shuts tomorrow night.
Fofana became the latest big-money signing to arrive in west
London this week and said he made the move from Leicester
City in order to compete for major trophies.

‘The two last days have been really big for me and I’m very
happy,’ the French defender said.
‘I trained this morning with the team and it’s a dream for me.
I’m very excited to start playing games for the fans and the
club.
‘I’m here to win trophies – the Champions League, Premier
League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, everything. I came here to win
and the club is built to win trophies so I’m here to continue
that.’
